Build focused lists based on industry, location, size, as well as financial and performance parameters.  REMOTE ACCESS to this database will be available shortly.       * Infotrac - search across multiple databases      General Reference Center - use this general interest database to find articles from magazines, reference books, and newspapers, many with full-text and images, on current events, popular culture, the arts and sciences, sports, hobbies, and more, from hundreds of periodicals dating from 1980 to the present....many titles with full-text and images. Business Index ASAP - access academic and business journals, with full text and images, for in-depth research on management issues, economic indicators and business practices, plus activities of companies and industries worldwide Business and Company Resource Center - a fully integrated resource bringing together company news, histories and profiles, industry news and information, brand information, rankings, investment reports, and chronologies Health Reference Center Academic - multi-source database that provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus variety of personal health information sources Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module - provides instant access to carefully compiled and trusted medical reference materials, nearly 400 health / medical journals, hundreds of pamphlets, over 700 health-related videos, in addition to a broad collection of reference titles        * JSTOR - offers a high-quality, interdisciplinary archive to support scholarship and teaching. The archives comprise over one thousand leading academic journals in the humanities and social sciences, plus select books and other materials valuable for academic work. Please note that journal articles are three years behind in their inclusion. This resource is full-text searchable, offers search term highlighting, includes images, and is interlinked by multiple citations and references. REMOTE ACCESS to this database will be available shortly.        * ProQuest Newspapers Includes 500+ national, regional, local and international dailies. Full-text articles (transcribed editorial content) for about 350 titles including: New York Times 1984-present ; Wall Street Journal 1984-present ; and San Francisco Chronicle 1985-present. Sixteen California newspapers are included in this database.       * Reference USA   business and residential database Includes some 13 million US companies & 120 million US households. Information sources include more than 5,600 Yellow Page and Business White Page telephone directories; annual reports, 10-Ks and other SEC information, plus federal, state, and municipal government data. Residential information is compiled from more than 3,900 White Page telephone directories. Each listing appears in the database exactly as it appears in the phone book. Search by product or service, by company name and location, by brand name along with manufacturers and distributors of these products.           * Contemporary Authors, Hoover's, InfoTrac, ProQuest, Reference USA, and Standard & Poors NetAdvantage These services are licensed Library database subscriptions.  Access is available only to current Institute members.  For remote access, member is prompted to type name and 14-digit barcode number to authenticates Mechanics' Institute paid-up membership. Attention AOL (America Online) users: The AOL browser is not functional for remote access. AOL users should download and install either Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. We recommend Internet Explorer instead of Netscape for superior remote access functionality. Attention MAC users: MAC users should download a full version of the Netscape browser in order to access databases remotely. The MAC version of Internet Explorer doesn't support remote access.
